Part 3 of this tutorial will look at my personal preferences in regards to painting and detailing the Grenade as well as unveiling ZBrush 4’s BPR (Best Preview Render) function, allowing us to truly obtain a realistic composite within Photoshop.
While in Photoshop we’ll explore layering BPR files such as shadows and ambient occlusion to give our model a truly real world feel, as well as introducing our depth layer to create a realistic lens blur effect for our final composite.

Awesome tutorials… I’ve learnt a lot.
Keep ‘em coming.
Cheers!
BadKing makes it so easy…
I don’t understand why doesnt videos load normally at your website? It takes like 1 minute to load like 10seconds.
I appreciate the feedback. We are still looking into how to improve download speeds for users who are further away from our servers. I’ll keep you posted regarding any progress. Thanks again.
wow. ive watched the 1st 4 and i must say. these are very beginner friendly tutorials.
Thanks
I’m in the process of putting together the hard surface modelling series which are geared towards beginner/ early intermediate users. I’m wanting to get more feedback from users if they are interested in a beginner series? I appreciate any feedback.
These are seriously good tutorials from someone who knows how to create art. Thanks BadKing. Beginner tutorials are always welcome, I think. I like that you are creating tutorial projects that have a goal; too many 3D tutorials just teach techniques without an interesting end product.
Thanks for the great feedback! I have had a huge response for beginner/ early intermediate tutorials and so will be focusing my future lessons at this level. I want my tutorials to help other artists and make the experience both productive and fun! I’m really glad that’s coming across…
I couldn’t resist commenting – great info thanks.
Feedback is always welcome! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
Thanks for sharing your great tutorials.I’m just starting out with Zbrush (been a max user about 5 yrs) and this tutorial helped me out a lot.
Please do more beginner/ early intermediate if possible. The hd quality is terrific too, any chance they’ll be down loadable?
Thanks for your feedback
Yes, some my tutorials will definitely be downloadable in the future. Based on recent feedback, I will be revamping the way I present my tutorials to improve the user experience. I will be focusing on more beginner/ intermediate tutorials or at least explaining complex topics in a way that beginner users can understand. I am also planning on releasing a few of my longer tutorials in bite-sized pieces so that users don’t need to stream entire tutorials if they are only interested in a particular part. I hope this if helpful and as always welcome any feedback. Good luck with ZBrush!
Saved as a favorite, I really like your blog!

Thanks heaps! I’ve been a little busy with other things but there is way more to come!
AWESOME TUTORIALS!! THANKS A LOT!!
Thanks for your support! I love reading these comments
These tutorials were just what I have been looking for the last six months! I am not new to Zbrush 4, but since Zbrush 3.5 I haven’t had really much time to play around with version 4. You mention pixologic.com and I agree its a great source and has a lot of materials, I have also gone through all their tutorials but I still got stuck at very crucial moments (would be a very long text if I wrote them all down). With your tutorials I never got lost, very pedagogical approach and with very clear explanations now I feel I am back on track to do some fun stuff with Zbrush. Thanks a lot and keep up the beautiful work on BadKing!
Thanks for your inspirational feedback, it’s always great to hear
I’ll be concentrating on ZBrush 4 R2 for future tutorials, I’ve got it say that it has some cool features that I really want to show you guys!
Sorry mate, somehow your post got lost and I don’t think I’ve replied to it! Thanks for the feedback and glad to hear they help
Again, my apologies for the late reply!
Amazing blog! But it takes ages to load here unlike in your youtube channel. I have read that you are already aware of this issue, so yeah, was just saying. More power and keep doing things like these!
Thanks mate! Still working on the speed issue as I need to find the time to swap my videos out with better compression, hopefully soon… :S
that’s exactly what i was lookin’ for n thanks for the nice tutorial…
Glad to be of help
Thanks for visiting…

Cheers from Brazil!
Thanks for your comment, it really does mean alot! Brazil’s awesome!
Valuable information. Lucky me I found your website by accident, and I’m shocked why this accident didn’t happened earlier! I bookmarked it.
Thanks
Great tutorials !!! The complex Zbrush became so easy to manage just after watching these 3 tutorials !!!
I have a problem
changing the light position in the light tool window has no effect in the light window, in the scene and neither on renders unlike yours. what can be wrong ??
Hmmm… I’m thinking a few things! Let’s start with the Materials. Make sure you’re not using a MatCap Material like the default ‘MatCap Red Wax’ Material or any of the other MatCap Materials. Try a Standard Material like ‘BasicMaterial’ found in the bottom half of the Material Quick Palette.
Hope this helps…
Let me know how you go!
It obviously works
btw I’ve had a metal material placed on…
Thanks
I really love your work the sniper helmet, and i have a question, what you are starting with ? from sphere , shadow box or maybe importing from 3d max the basic shape ?
I’m glad it worked! Just in addition to your shadow problem, make sure that your ambient light is not set too high as that can potentially wash out your shadows. I also recommend playing around with your shadow settings in BPR. As for my sniper helmet..I can’t remember exactly what shape I started with as I did it a while ago, but I do know that it came from a primitive object like a sphere or a cube. I’m currently working on a sci-fi body armour tutorial that might interest you. It’s a long one but should be released soon!
Good, I am looking forward to watch it.
Amazing layout! How did you get it?
